About Us

The overarching goal is to lead the re-fashioning of Michigan into the new “Silicon Valley” for Homeland Security by investing in start-up companies that beget related successes within our vertical. To enable a new business paradigm, three foundational elements must be present: (1) entrepreneurs, (2) capital, and (3) a pro-business climate strong enough to bring in the best and brightest minds to cluster in Michigan. For a new model to emerge, indigenous entrepreneurs AND those businesspeople seeking to start business from outside the area must be supported in a business environment that plays an active role in fostering their successes. In other words, the start-up tools must be at hand so that businesses start here, come here, and stay here. And perhaps the most critical tool is capital.

The Fund 

The Homeland Security Resource Fund will invest in up to 20 start-up companies over the life time of the fund. Investments will be up to $250,000 (staged-in against benchmarks) with the ability to make follow-on investments.

Our Team

Battle Creek Unlimited (“BCU”) is the Administrative Manager of the Homeland Security Resource Fund. BCU is the economic Development organization that works with the City of Battle Creek to transform and diversify the Battle Creek economy, in part through developing Fort Custer Industrial Park. BC Ventures is the group within Battle Creek Unlimited that focuses on accelerating development of technology businesses and is Battle Creek’s start up company resource focusing on homeland security and aerospace technologies.

Dale Grogan is the Fund Manager. In his over 20 years of professional business dealings, Dale Grogan has been on literally every side of transactions, from entrepreneur, buyer, seller, to investment banker. Mr. Grogan has started and owned numerous businesses, including an NASD broker/dealer firm, several technology companies, and consulting firms focused on start-up businesses. He has also been the CEO of a publicly-traded technology company.

We have a deep Board of Directors and Advisory Board who aid us in our evaluations.
